Biotechnology UGM – An extraordinary opportunity was obtained by the UGM Biotechnology Masters study program with the presence of Resources Prima Group CEO Agus Sugiono in the context of studying Biotechnology careers. Starting the career lecture meeting this time, Mr. Agus Sugiono as CEO asked students about the meaning of a career. According to Mr. Agus Sugiono, a career is the development and progress of life, work, and so on. Furthermore, he also asks whether success is part of the goal or effect. According to Mr. Agus Sugiono, a career is to become an adult in his successful career. People who have a career and are qualified are not just because of the material.
Mr. Agus Sugiono’s career journey began with studying at the University of National Development, then continued to The University of Texas, Austin, and a master’s program at MM, University of Indonesia. His career journey skyrocketed as a professional while serving the country. Mr. Agus Sugiono at that time was placed in Pertamina until he occupied an important position as a decision-maker. While serving, he was allowed to leave the company because he was going to build a business with his younger brother. But unfortunately, he was not allowed to go out and was instead welcome to start a business while working. This opportunity became a golden opportunity to improving his career.
Mr. Agus Sugiono advised Master of Biotechnology students who want to build a business and focus on entrepreneurship, that they need to prepare themselves. Some things that need to be prepared are having positive thinking, innovation, curiosity, and being able to choose work priorities. Mr. Agus Sugiono explained that priority work is important to determine the work that should be completed immediately. The popular method described by Mr. Agus Sugiono is to choose work priorities based on the Pareto system, namely 20/80, or work on two priorities that make all activities on the day safe. In addition, Mr. Agus Sugiono advised me to build a mentality of making the right decisions when faced with a problem and make backup planning and resilience.
The CEO of Resources Prima Group explained the challenges that will be faced by an entrepreneur are very complex. These challenges include bureaucratic problems, hiring talents, and securing financing. For Agus Sugiono, this challenge must be resolved wisely so that the business that runs remains sustainable. According to him, several ways that can be done to minimize risk are to find friends in completing a business, get people who are right on target in completing work and collaborate in determining financing and accounting.
Mr. Agus Sugiono explained that the field of biotechnology plays an important role in many sectors including the energy and property sectors. Some examples of biotechnology applications in the property sector are Environmental Impact Assessment (AMDAL), provision of environmentally friendly raw materials, and staining. The application of biotechnology in the energy field can lead to bioremediation. The application of biotechnology can reduce the level of environmental pollution and make breakthroughs with the innovation of products made from organisms.
In achieving his success, Mr. Agus Sugiono disciplined himself by planning all his activities when he was about to go to bed and doing it the next day. A high level of discipline will build a productive character and be able to accomplish many things. Although there is a lucky factor in running a career, one cannot depend only on that factor. Hard work done as much as possible and gathering with successful friends can be the impetus for the emergence of a real luck factor.
