The Graduate Program in Biotechnology at the Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada is pleased to share the successful completion of a research internship by Ika R. Sutejo, a student of the Master’s Program in Biotechnology. The seven-week internship took place from 15 September to 31 October 2025 at the Laboratory of Functional Genomics and Medicines, Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST), Japan.

During the research stay, Ika worked on the evaluation of gene expression related to epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) using a triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) spheroid model. The internship provided hands-on training in advanced cancer research techniques and direct interaction with a collaborative international research environment. The experience enriched her academic and research skills, particularly in functional genomics and disease modeling.

This mobility program was supported by funding from BPI (Beasiswa Pendidikan Indonesia) and the Cancer Chemoprevention Research Center (CCRC), Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Gadjah Mada. The Graduate Program in Biotechnology expresses appreciation for the support and collaboration that made this internship possible.

The program continues to encourage students to pursue international research experiences that strengthen scientific competencies, expand professional networks, and contribute to global knowledge exchange in biotechnology.
