Two students from the Study Program of Biotechnology Universitas Gadjah Mada, Suci Dwi Monda and Naura Paramitha, succeeded in achieving third place in the ANGEL International Innovation Competition which took place at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) on June 10, 2024. Suci Dwi Monda and Naura Paramitha are part of the team Wong Kito Pride Corporation (WKP Crop) together with two other UGM students from the Master of Management Program, Muhammad Eko Andriyansyah and Hendy Gusando (JOG-MBA-83 2023), under the guidance of Rokhima Rostiani, S.E., M.Mgt.
The competition, which was organized by the ASEAN Network for Green Entrepreneurship and Leadership (ANGLE), was attended by 12 teams from various universities in the ASEAN region. Several teams came from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK), Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Indonesian Islamic University (UII), University of South-East Asia, Institute of Technology Cambodia, Royal University of Phnom Penh, Savannakhet University, Champasack University, Can Tho University, and Ha Noi University of Mining and Geology.
The WKP Corp team’s journey to achieve third place in this prestigious competition was a long process. Previously, this team underwent initial selection at the faculty level and succeeded in winning the Green Business Plan Competition held by MBA UGM in May 2024, after eliminating 16 other teams. Furthermore, this team became representatives of Indonesia to take part in the ANGEL Innovation Competition in Malaysia, where they presented business proposals online.
The business proposal submitted by the WKP Corp team is SAPITAN, an innovative supplement for ruminants containing tannin extract from banana tuber waste. This tannin extract has been proven to be effective in reducing methane gas emissions from animals without reducing their appetite. Apart from that, tannin extract is also able to increase daily milk and meat productivity by 6.5%, which has the potential to increase farmers’ income significantly.
The ANGEL International Innovation Competition is a platform for students to showcase their innovative thinking, especially in sustainable business, in preparation for a greener future.
