A student of the the Study Program of Master in Biotechnology Universitas Gadjah Mada has won the title of 1st Winner Oral Presenter at the 6th International Seminar of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology (ISPST) held by Universitas Padjadjaran (UNPAD) on October 30-31, 2024. The student is Yohanes Surya Jati from batch 2023 who is also a member of the Cancer and Chemoprevention Research Center (CCRC) research group under the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM.
The ISPST seminar was held in conjunction with the 15th Indonesian Society of Cancer Chemoprevention (ISCC) Annual Conference which was attended by various universities in Indonesia such as UGM, UNPAD, ITB, UNAIR, UII, and others. This seminar brought in many keynote speakers who discussed the development of treatment and research developments related to cancer from various perspectives such as the fields of pharmacy, molecular biology, genetics, bioinformatics, to bring in the Ministry of Health and State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) PT.Biofarma and BPJS Health institutions.
Under the guidance of Dr. apt. Dyaningtyas Dewi Pamungkas Putri, M.Sc., Yohanes compiled his research on the potential use of natural materials for the development of breast cancer therapy. The combination therapy with natural ingredients used has been proven to inhibit the growth of breast cancer and predictions are currently being made about potential proteins that can be targeted in the therapy.
Armed with a strong determination and unyielding spirit, Yohanes prepared himself by practicing public speaking and improving his English skills. Until then, he presented his in silico research to the jury and audience on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at the Universitas Padjadjaran Rectorate Building. From around 70 oral presenters consisting of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral students, as well as several lecturers who attended this seminar, Yohanes won the best title given directly by Prof. Muchtaridi, Ph.D., Apt. as chairman of ISCC. Through international seminars such as ISPST that focus on solving cancer, there are various opportunities for research collaboration to develop more sophisticated cancer treatments and diagnostic methods. Thus, the quality of health in Indonesia can be improved, specifically increasing the life expectancy of patients and reducing the mortality rate due to cancer.
