Yogyakarta, November 20, 2024 – Pipin Agnesia, a student of the Study Program of Master in Biotechnology at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), has won the Best Presenter award at the international conference titled Nature’s Blueprint: A Journey toward Sustainable Development through the BCG Economy Model. This prestigious event, held from November 14-16, 2024, at the Krungsri River Hotel in Ayutthaya, Thailand, was organized by King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang in collaboration with the Asian Federation of Biotechnology (AFOB) 2024. It featured leading researchers and academics in the field of biotechnology from various countries.
During the Food Technology and Engineering session, Pipin presented her innovative research on utilizing fish skin waste to produce oil as part of a nutraceutical product, which serves as a source of essential fatty acids to support sustainable food development and has potential therapeutic properties in vitro. Her research, which is a collaborative project with Universitas Sebelas Maret and led by Elisa Herawati, M.Eng., Ph.D., highlights the importance of exploring local biological resources to create Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy-based solutions that contribute to sustainable development goals.
“This award is a motivation for me to continue research that not only focuses on food innovation but also has a real impact on human health and environmental sustainability,” said Pipin after receiving the award.
The conference was attended by over 300 participants from various countries, including the United States, Japan, Vietnam, Taiwan, and Malaysia. The 36th Biotechnology Annual Meeting featured panel presentations, in-depth discussions, and exhibitions of cutting-edge biotechnology technologies. Pipin was recognized for her comprehensive, innovative presentation, which addressed global challenges in achieving sustainable development through an interdisciplinary approach.
Prof. Dr. Thanuttkhul Mongkolaussavarat, President of the Thai Society for Biotechnology, along with other executive committee members, stated, “We greatly appreciate young talents who are able to connect scientific research with the vision of sustainable development. This is an important step toward creating a better future.”
This award is not only a source of pride for Pipin but also for UGM, UNS, LPDP as the scholarship provider, and the Indonesian biotechnology community, whose contributions are increasingly recognized on the international stage.
