The Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) successfully held the Women in STEM event on Friday, 21 November 2025, at the Auditorium, 5th Floor, UGM Graduate School, Jalan Teknika Utara, Pogung, Sleman. Registration began at 12:30 WIB, welcoming students, academics, and professionals committed to advancing gender equity in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

This empowering event featured three distinguished speakers:

  • Prof. drg. Ika Dewi Ana, M.Kes., Ph.D., Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada
  • Rachma Wikandari, S.T.P., M.Biotech., Ph.D., Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Universitas Gadjah Mada
  • Professor Kim Dale, Ph.D., School of Life Sciences, University of Dundee

Through their talks, each speaker shared personal journeys, research experiences, and reflections on the challenges and opportunities for women pursuing careers in STEM fields. They highlighted the importance of mentorship, resilience, international collaboration, and expanding research capacity to support women scientists in Indonesia and globally.

The discussion emphasized that women play a crucial and growing role in shaping scientific innovation, and creating a supportive ecosystem—academically and professionally—is key to sustaining their contributions. The speakers encouraged participants to take bold steps in their scientific careers, seek interdisciplinary perspectives, and foster inclusive environments in their respective fields.

Participants engaged actively during the question-and-answer session, raising topics on career development, gender bias in academia, and strategies for building leadership roles in STEM. The event provided a valuable platform for dialogue, inspiration, and networking among aspiring women scientists.

The UGM Graduate School hopes that the Women in STEM initiative will continue to amplify voices of women researchers, strengthen academic communities, and motivate the next generation to pursue excellence in science and technology.
