The event took place on Friday, September 26, 2025, from 7:30 AM to 9:00 AM at the 3rd Floor, Master’s Program in Biotechnology, UGM.

The first speaker, Khairunnisa Mentari Semesta, Ph.D, presented “From Science to Strategy: from PhD to Strategy Consulting in Biopharma”. She is currently working at L.E.K, New York US, focusing on strategic consulting in the biopharma industry. read more

Yogyakarta, September 13, 2025 – The Master Program of Biotechnology, Universitas Gadjah Mada successfully held a series of welcoming activities for the 2025 cohort of new students. The program consisted of the inaugural lecture on Friday, August 15, 2025, and BioFusion 2025 on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Ledok Sambi Ecopark, Kaliurang, Yogyakarta. The event was attended by students from the 2025 and 2024 cohorts, as well as representatives from the 2023 cohort.

BioFusion 2025 began with a briefing and gathering at PAU Biotechnology. A total of 35 new students joined, accompanied by organizing committee members from the 2024 cohort, and traveled together by bus to Ledok Sambi Ecopark. read more

The Research Center in Biotechnology in collaboration with the Study Program in Biotechnology, Universitas Gadjah Mada, was organizing a workshop entitled “Zero Coding: Bacteria Whole Genome Analysis Made Easy”. The event took place on Thursday, August 28, 2025, from 09.00 to 12.00 WIB at the 3rd Floor Lecture Room, PAU Building, Universitas Gadjah Mada.

The workshop featured Jacob Wu, Global Business Manager of Genomics Biosci & Tech, who delivered a session on practical approaches to bacterial genome analysis that require no programming skills (zero coding). read more

The Biotechnology Study Program, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), hosted a General Lecture for the Career in Biotechnology course featuring distinguished international speaker, Mr. Andreas Stäbler from the Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging IVV, Germany. The event was held on Monday, August 25, 2025, at 1:00 PM (WIB) in the 3rd Floor Lecture Hall, PAU Building, UGM.

In his lecture, Mr. Stäbler delivered a presentation on “Current Applied Research Approaches in Non-Medical Biotechnology”, sharing insights into recent advancements in applied biotechnology beyond the medical field, and their potential contributions to industry and sustainability. read more

Yogyakarta, 14 July 2025 — The Biotechnology Study Program, Universitas Gadjah Mada, held a workshop titled “OMERO–GammaPath Implementation: Enhancing Image Management and Analysis for Teaching and Research in Biology and Biotechnology” on Monday, 14 July 2025, from 09:00 to 12:00 WIB at the 3rd Floor Lecture Room, PAU Building, UGM.

The workshop featured prominent experts in the field: Prof. Jason Swedlow from the School of Life Sciences, University of Dundee, who presented the use of OMERO (Open Microscopy Environment Remote Objects) in biotechnology research through practical examples and live demonstration; and Dr. Ery Kus Dwianingsih, Ph.D., Sp.PA(K) from the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FKKMK UGM), who shared best practices for integrating OMERO into teaching activities. Yogyakarta, June 25, 2025 — The Biotechnology Study Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a general lecture titled “Structural Insights into the Catalytic Mechanism of PHA Synthase (PhaC) in Biodegradable Plastic Synthesis” at the 3rd Floor Lecture Room, PAU Building, UGM.

The lecture featured Dr. Min Fey CHEK from the Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST), Japan, who presented his latest research on the structure of PHA synthase (PhaC), a key enzyme in the biosynthesis of eco-friendly polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs). read more

A student team from the Study Program of Master in Biotechnology at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), consisting of Farras Alifia Rahman and Anwar Rovik, achieved an outstanding accomplishment by securing second place at the Genomics and Science Dojo 2.0 Cycle 3. This prestigious scientific research competition was held from May 19–22, 2025, at Novotel, Cikini, Jakarta.

Genomics and Science Dojo 2.0 Cycle 3 is an intensive training and competition program aimed at enhancing genomic research capabilities in Indonesia. Inspired by the “dojo” concept from martial arts, the event encourages participants to not only deepen their theoretical understanding but also to sharpen their skills in debate, presentation, and scientific argumentation. read more

Yogyakarta – Three students from the Master’s Program in Biotechnology at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) recently completed a prestigious research internship program at the Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST) in Japan. They are Anwar Rovik and Dhea Kirana Faiha, students of the 2023 Biotechnology Master’s cohort, and Sarwan Adi Kusumo, an alumnus from the 2022 Biotechnology Master’s cohort.

This 3-week program provided a golden opportunity for the students to directly engage in cutting-edge research at leading laboratories within the Division of Biological Science at NAIST. The three were placed in different laboratories: Microbial Interaction, Stem Cell, and Plant Immunity, according to their interests and research fields. read more
