The Master’s Program in Biotechnology, Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), will hold an Open Thesis Defense featuring student research presentations in the field of biotechnology. This event serves as a platform for scientific dissemination and an academic forum to share innovations and recent findings.
The Open Thesis Defense will take place on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at the 3rd Floor Biotechnology Lecture Room, Graduate School UGM, and will also be accessible online via Zoom Meeting.
Four students will present their research sequentially. Dian Permana Putri Ambarsari will open the session at 08:00 WIB with a study on the activity of β-galactosidase enzyme in cultures of Kluyveromyces marxianus KFA9 and Lacticaseibacillus paracasei M104 in goat milk kefir fermentation. This will be followed at 09:00 WIB by Lulu Dar Zulfatunna’im, who will discuss the viability and metabolite profiles of Lacticaseibacillus casei AG and Pediococcus acidilactici BE as responses to heat stress.
The afternoon session will continue at 13:00 WIB with Nurmara Salsabila, who will present research on protein profiles involved in drought response in Indonesian pigmented local rice using a proteomic approach. The event will conclude at 14:30 WIB with a presentation by Nur Rokhmalia on the optimization of antibacterial compound actinomycin D production in Streptomyces rubiginosohelvolus isolates from the Thousand Islands.
This event is open to the public and is expected to attract students, researchers, academics, and the general public with an interest in biotechnology. Through this open defense, the presented research is expected not only to fulfill academic requirements but also to contribute to scientific advancement and future biotechnological applications.
