The Master’s Program in Biotechnology at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) once again organized a Community Service Program as part of its ongoing commitment to supporting the professional development of educators in Indonesia. Carrying the theme “Know Your Food, Protect Your Generation: Biotechnology Education for Safe and Nutritious Food,” the program was held on August 4–5, 2026, at the Biotechnology Study Program Lecture Hall, PAU Building, UGM, Sleman.

The training brought together high school Biology teachers from various regions, including the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Magelang, Purworejo, Klaten, and Surakarta. Over the course of two days, participants engaged in both theoretical sessions and hands-on laboratory activities designed to deepen their understanding of food safety and the application of biotechnology in everyday life as well as in classroom learning. read more

The Master’s Program in Biotechnology, Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), held an Open Thesis Defense as part of the academic requirements for completing a master’s degree. The event featured Firna Fauziatul Karimah, who presented her research entitled “Biosynthesis Study of Conjugated Linoleic Acid in Lacticaseibacillus paracasei M014 and Pediococcus pentosaceus M103 Derived from Ettawa Crossbred Goat.”

The open defense took place on Monday, July 6, 2026, at 10:00 AM (WIB), located at the 3rd Floor Biotechnology Lecture Room, Graduate School UGM, and was also accessible online via Zoom Meeting. Biotech Camp 2026 will take place on Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 08:00 AM to 04:00 PM at the 5th Floor Auditorium, Graduate School UGM. The event is mandatory for students enrolled in the 2024 and 2025 cohorts. In particular, students from the 2024 cohort who have not yet completed their closed thesis defense are required to present their thesis research in this forum. read more

The Master’s Program in Biotechnology, Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada, held a Proposal Seminar for students of the 2025 cohort on Friday, May 30, 2026, at the 3rd Floor Lecture Room, PAU Biotechnology Building, UGM. This seminar serves as an important academic milestone, providing a platform for students to present their proposed thesis research and receive constructive feedback from faculty members and participants.

During the event, four students presented innovative research proposals in the field of biotechnology. Sungsang Prakoso Jati discussed the optimization of anti-MRSA compound production from Paecilomyces sp. using an integrated Response Surface Methodology (RSM) combined with bioautography and protein profile analysis. Siti Aulia Adila presented her work on the immobilization and activity assay of recombinant penicillin G acylase from Providencia rettgeri wild type using Ca-alginate–chitosan coated with polyethyleneimine (PEI). Shabrina Ghina Alifa explored the immobilization and evaluation of recombinant enzyme NoSP-PrPGA activity using a Ca-alginate–chitosan matrix coated with polyethyleneimine (PEI). Meanwhile, Putri Nur Aprilliani Basri examined the potential combination of ursolic acid and tamoxifen on triple-negative breast cancer cells (MDA-MB-231) in vitro. read more

• Inneke Ashri Mawaddah (2:00 PM WIB) with the topic Microbial Analysis in Anaerobic Digesters of Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME) for Biogas Production under Mesophilic Conditions.
• Anand Reyna Maulana (3:00 PM WIB) with the topic Exploration of Thermophilic Bacterial Communities and Identification of DNA Polymerase Gene Potential Based on Full-length 16S rRNA Metabarcoding at Sileri Crater, Dieng Plateau, Central Java.
• Rizki Desika Putri Pane (4:00 PM WIB) with the topic Exploration of ACC Deaminase-Producing Endophytic Bacteria from Oil Palm and Their Potential in Enhancing Plant Stress Tolerance.
